Catherine Peters

Catherine Peters is a tenured associate professor of philosophy at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. She earned her Ph.D. from the Center for Thomistic Studies at the University of St. Thomas in Houston in 2019, under the supervision of Jon McGinnis. A specialist in medieval philosophy, particularly Thomas Aquinas and Avicenna (Ibn Sīnā), her research focuses on philosophical anthropology, metaphysics, natural theology, and the philosophy of disability. Her work brings medieval thought into conversation with contemporary questions concerning human nature, personhood, disability, and human flourishing. Her scholarship has appeared in The Thomist, New Blackfriars, The Journal of Islamic Philosophy, National Catholic Bioethics Quarterly, the European Journal for the Study of Thomas Aquinas, Lex Naturalis, and Jesuit Higher Education, as well as several edited volumes. She is currently developing a systematic Thomistic philosophy of disability. Outside the classroom, she can often be found in a local coffee shop, at the dog park, or in a HIIT class.
