I am a medical ethicists and head of the Department for Medical Ethics and History of Medicine at Goettingen University Medical Center, Germany. Since 2012, I am a member of the German National Ethics Council. From 2002-2012, I was president of the German Academy of Ethics in Medicine, an academic society for Medical Ethics. My research topics include •autonomy and trust in biomedicine, particularly with regard to reproductive autonomy •the role of parenthood and the family in medical ethics •children's rights in medicine, pediatric ethics •bioethics and gender issues, intersex •history and ethics of brain death
