En este trabajo se explicita, para el caso de la sociología, como la contrastación de hipótesis puede ser entendida a partir de un marco teórico distinto del marco de la concepción clásica de las teorías científicas. Sin embargo, esto es hecho a partir de un contexto especial, se bien, a pesar de que pudiera parecer, no necesariamente peculiar, a saber, el contexto de las teorías de alcance intermedio, tipo de teoría a partir del cual, propone Robert K. Merton, la sociología debe desarrollarse. Dado que Merton concibe las teorías de alcance intermedio teniendo como trasfondo la concepción clásica de las teorías, se presenta brevemente las ideas centrales de dicha concepción y, después de presentar las características de las teorías de alcance intermedio, se presenta brevemente las ideas centrales de la Metateoría Estructuralista (ME) y también parte de la reconstrucción de la teoría (de alcance intermedio) de los grupos de referencia (TGR) para, a partir de este ejemplo, replantear –en moldes de ME– la afirmación de Merton de que las teorías de alcance intermedio consisten en conjuntos limitados de supuestos, de los que se derivan lógicamente hipótesis específicas, que son confirmadas por la investigación empírica –explicitando como la “contrastación de hipótesis” es entendida en el seno de ME–.

In two occasions a Bibliography of Structuralism has been published in Erkenntnis (1989, 1994). Since then a lot of water has flowed under the bridge and the structuralist program has shown a continuous development. The aim of the present bibliography is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the publication of An Architectonic for Science –structuralism’s main reference work– and of its recent translation into Spanish by updating the previous bibliographies with titles which have appeared since 1994 as well as before that year but which are not included in them. As in the former deliveries, this bibliography only covers books and articles that are concerned directly with the structuralist approach in the philosophy of science. We would like to thank the many colleagues who have helped us in collecting all the information. Notwithstanding we apologize in advance for the possible entries that we missed to include in this third Bibliography of Structuralism.

Born on October 26, 1946, Carlos Ulises Moulines studied Physics, Philosophy and Psychology at the University of Barcelona, obtaining a Degree in Philosophy from that same University and a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Munich, supervised by Wolfgang Stegmüller. He is one of the most outstanding contemporary philosophers of science and one of the most prominent exponents of metascientific structuralism. In this interview he talks about biographical aspects, philosophy of science in general and specific topics, as well as presenting his impressions on some topics related to academic life.

La teoría del etiquetado es la teoría acerca de cómo la autoidentidad y el comportamiento de los individuos pueden ser determinados o influenciados por los términos usados para describirlos o clasificarlos. La teoría se vuelve importante y conquista su espacio destacándose como una de las más productivas teorías acerca de la desviación. En este estudio, con base en una concepción contemporánea de teoría científica, la de la metateoría estructuralista, es presentada una reconstrucción de la propuesta de Howard Becker/Edwin Lemert, lo que permite explicitar la estructura profunda de la teoría.

The present work is immersed in the context of the contemporary philosophy of science, especially of the semanticist philosophy of the structuralist metatheory. Objectively, the work aims to reestablish the dialogue between the general philosophy of science and the special philosophy developed by scientists concerned with the fundamentals of their discipline, in this case, with sociologists. After presenting the Mertonian notion of middle range theory, the conception of theory that offers ME and, from that conception, a way of conceiving both global intertheoretical relations and intertheoretical change will be presented. Finally, the analysis of the use of the notion of middle range theory in scientific practice will be made, analyzing the specific case of sociological research about organizations.

El objetivo de este artículo es presentar una reconstrucción, conforme a la metateoría estructuralista, de la teoría de los grupos de referencia. La teoría, desarrollada por Robert Merton, ha sido largamente utilizada en los más variados campos de las ciencias sociales, aunque con escasa consideración metateórica hasta ahora. La reconstrucción atenderá a la presentación que de la misma se recoge en sendos artículos de su libro Social Theory and Social Structure, a saber: “Contributions to the theory of reference group behavior” y “Continuities in the theory of reference groups and social structure”. Después de una consideración informal de la teoría, serán presentados sus modelos potenciales, modelos, modelos potenciales parciales, condiciones de ligadura, vínculos interteóricos y aplicaciones intencionales.

El objetivo de este artículo es presentar una reconstrucción de la teoría de los grupos dereferencia. La teoría, desarrollada por Robert K. Merton, ha sido largamente utilizada enlos más variados campos de las ciencias sociales, aunque con escasa o nula consideraciónmetateórica hasta ahora. La reconstrucción atenderá a la presentación que de la misma serecoge en sendos artículos de su libro Social Theory and Social Structure, de 1968, a saber:“Contributions to the theory of reference group behavior” y “Continuities in the theory ofreference groups and social structure”. Para presentar esta reconstrucción me apoyaré en elinstrumental de la Metateoría Estructuralista. Después de una consideración informal de lateoría, serán presentados sus modelos potenciales, modelos, modelos potenciales parciales,sus aplicaciones intencionales y algunos comentarios acerca de la noción de “grupo de referencia”en lo que respeta su carácter relacional y disposicional.

Although we may find the concept of anomie in Greek thought, it is since Durkheim that the concept begins to be used specifically as a sociological concept. However, a theory of anomie only becomes consolidated since “Social Structure and Anomie” by Robert K. Merton (Merton 1938). The theory becomes important and conquers its space in the rest of the century as one of the most productive theories about deviance. In this study, based on a contemporary conception of scientific theory, that of the structuralist metatheory, a reconstruction of Merton’s approach is proposed, allowing to make explicit the deep structure of the theory.
