In this historical study, I intend to situate Spinoza's Tractatus de Intellectus Emendatione (TIE) within the broader context of logical reformism in early modern philosophy. I will try to show that there are, in this opuscule, elements coming from three great currents in action in this context: (I) the logica novantiqua; (II) the reform of mathematics triggered by the Quaestio de Certitudine Mathematicarum and (III) the humanist reform of logic, of rhetorical leaning. By demonstrating this historical point, I will also try to demonstrate a systematical one: Spinoza's logic is at the same time a prophylaxis to avoid instrumental rationality and a proposal, still rudimentary but sufficiently clear, of an intentional logic. © 2021 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.

Meu objetivo no presente artigo é analisar o movimento argumentativo pelo qual Espinosa introduz, no proêmio do Tratado da Emenda do Intelecto, a expressão “Doctrina de puerorum Educatione”. Embora não se trate de um conceito direta e detidamente desenvolvido por Espinosa, estimo ser possível reconstruir, com base na referida análise, a função de tal doutrina no interior do programa filosófico que aí se delineia. Através dessa reconstrução, pretendo defender que uma doutrina espinosana da educação das crianças deve necessariamente pautar-se pelo “princípio do acompanhamento do erro”, de modo a exprimir, também no âmbito da pedagogia, o caráter radicalmente imanentista do sistema de Espinosa.

The main objective of this article is to analyze the conceptual connection between the Doctrine of Children’s Education, briefly mentioned in Spinoza’s Tractatus de Intellectus Emendatione, and the concept of emendation present at the very center of this Treatise’s title. A close textual exegesis of the opening paragraphs of TIE reveals why such a doctrine cannot be the ascetic renunciation of the content of ordinary life. We shall see instead that a new institution of life shall be possible only through a deep plunge into the understanding of ordinary confused life. A Spinozan Doctrine of Children’s Education shall then be conceived as a pedagogy guided by an error mapping principle, i.e., a pedagogy capable of amending the mistaken beliefs of students through their understanding of the way these are produced as real events in the world. This would be an immanent pedagogy, which could be relevant to any form of contemporary thought that seeks a truly liberating education.

The argumentative structure of this article can be summarized as follows: 1) Spinoza was repeatedly accused of eleaticism; 2) there is a rupture with the eleaticism when one admits the ‘multivocity’ of the logical operators “is” and “is not”; as can be seen, for example, 2.1) in the discussion introducing the Great Genera in Plato’s Sophist, and 2.2) in a certain use made by Aristotle of the category’s doctrine in order to soften the Parmenidean version of the Principle of Non-Contradiction. 3) Spinoza admits the ‘multivocity’ of “is” and “is not”. Hence, Spinoza should not be placed among the Eleatics but inside the brotherhood of the suspects of the so-called parricide against Parmenides. This reasoning, which almost sounds as a truism, will, however, suggest two interesting further considerations: one on how an important tradition of interpretation of Spinoza has misplaced the problem of the relationship of Spinoza’s ontology with the logical principles; and another on the type of logic that is implied by the theory of modes of perception or kinds of knowledge.

Seguindo de perto a caracterização que Robert Blanché faz da lógica dos modernos em seu livro História da Lógica de Aristóteles a Bertrand Russell, pretendo mostrar como as Regulae de Descartes instanciam paradigmaticamente algumas das principais características das lógicas reformadas, típicas desse momento histórico. O próprio Blanché oferece vários exemplos do pertencimento de Descartes a esse contexto. De minha parte, pretendo contribuir com a discussão realizando um exame mais detalhado da parte final da Regra X, na qual desponta, já nesta que é uma das primeiras obras de Descartes, certa noção de atividade mental, que está em relação tanto com as críticas cartesianas às matemáticas, no Discurso do Método, quanto com o argumento do cogito, nas Meditações.

O tema a ser examinado neste artigo situa-se na primeira parte do programa metodológico apresentado por Espinosa no Tractatus de Intellectus Emendatione. Essa parte do método dedica-se a distinguir a idéia verdadeira de todas as demais percepções, entre as quais encontram-se a idéia fictícia e?as suposições que são feitas nas quaestiones?. É ao tratar destas últimas que Espinosa menciona, ainda que muito brevemente, as?hipóteses que são feitas para explicar certos movimentos que convêm com os fenômenos celestes?. Esse breve trecho, presente na segunda nota do §57, constitui o núcleo textual que o presente artigo se propõe a elucidar, contribuindo para a compreensão do estatuto epistêmico das referidas hipóteses e de seu papel na lida com objetos empíricos, tais como os?fenômenos celestes?

O objetivo do presente artigo é investigar o sentido da inadequação atribuída por Espinosa, no Tratado da Emenda do Intelecto, ao “terceiro modo de perceber”. Para tanto, mobilizarei noções componentes da teoria espinosana da definição, conceitualmente relacionadas – como parâmetro contraposto – ao tema da inadequação aqui em pauta. Além disso, também pretendo explorar o papel da referência que Espinosa faz, nesse contexto, aos Elementos de Euclides. E por fim, a título de conclusão, indicarei algumas possíveis conseqüências dessa ressalva feita à razão para uma caracterização do sentido histórico mais amplo do racionalismo espinosano.

In this article we have the intention of examining the relationship between philosophy and language in Nietzsche’s writings, and particulary the philosophical sense of his use of figures of speech. In order to achieve this goal, firstly, we analyse Jörg Salaquarda’s interpretation of the Ass in Zarathustra and the Ass. Secondly, we discuss the Nietzschean writings status based on some considerations given to this aspect by Wolfgang Müller-Lauter in The doctrine of will to power in Nietzsche. And thirdly, we seek to produce a synthesis of the questions examined, inserting them in the context of the polemics which surrounds the so-called Heraclitean tradition and its problemizing of the philosophical discourse.
