I am an Associate Professor at Hunter College and the CUNY Graduate Center.

My main current project is a book for OUP arguing that what makes human communication special is our reliance on intention recognition, which is made possible by our uniquely powerful capacities for mindreading, planning, and language.

I also have interests in speech acts, pragmatics, the semantics–pragmatics interface, the semantics of imperative clauses, the philosophy of action and practical rationality, cognitive architecture, the cognitive science of mindreading, Grice, Austin, and the history of analytic philosophy.
