David Bartosch

I am a Distinguished Research Fellow in the rank of Full Professor at Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai in the Greater Bay Area. Trained in Germany in philosophy and musicology, my work bridges multiple disciplines through a transcultural and comparative lens. I have developed several methodological approaches to facilitate a systematic, transversal dialogue between philosophies from different cultural horizons, such as European Renaissance philosophy and Ming dynasty Chinese thought. Building on this foundation, my current research lies at the nexus of comparative philosophy, the philosophy of culture, transdisciplinary studies, and intercultural relations. I maintain a profound interest in ancient and medieval thought, Renaissance thought, German philosophy, Chinese philosophy, and specialized areas such as the philosophy of life and the philosophy of music. Beyond my current primary institution, I have also worked as an associate professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University for several years, was a research fellow at the Budapest Centre for Long-term Sustainability in Hungary, have held a visiting research position at the Research Institute for Sustainability (Helmholtz Centre Potsdam) in Germany, and contributed as an external researcher in Chinese philosophy to the Koselleck Project Histories of Philosophy in a Global Perspective at the University of Hildesheim. As an active member of the global academic community, I serve on several editorial boards of academic journals, editions, and book series.
