Dimitria Electra Gatzia

I am a professor of philosophy and the integrated biosciences (PhD) program at the University of Akron. I have also served as Department Chair and as the Director of Opportunities & Belonging at the Buchtel College of Arts and Sciences. I have a B.A. in philosophy from UCLA and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Syracuse University. My research is in the philosophy of mind and cognitive neuroscience. I am interested in the nature and ontology of color, color perception, and more generally how cognitive psychology and neuroscience can inform our philosophical theories about perception and cognition as well as their relation. The focus of my most recent work has been on metacognition and Artificial Intelligence. My secondary interests are in social and political philosophy and philosophy of economics.

I am affiliate of the Brogaard Lab For Multisensory Research, at the University of Miami (http://www.brogaardlab.com). Research Fellow at the Centre for Philosophical Psychology, at the University of Antwerp (2016-17). Research Fellow, Institute of Philosophy, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (Summer 2021 - it was delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
