Dwight W. Read is a Distinguished Researh Professor of Anthropology at UCLA. He received his Ph.D at UCLA in mathematics, with focus on abstract algebras. He does research and publishes in all of the subdisciplines of Anthropology. His current research focuses on the interrelationship between the material and the ideational domains in human societies with focus on the algebraic/logical structure that organizes the system of terms we, as culture-bearers, use to refer to our relatives, such as mother, father, cousin, sister-in-law and so on, in English.
