I am a PhD student at UW-Madison interested in Early Modern Philosophy, particularly Thomas Hobbes. Mostly, I am curious about the relationship between god and materialism in Hobbes's system. For instance, if (as Hobbes seemed to think) ideas/concepts are rooted in sense perception, what sort of idea/concept (if any) can humans have of god? If god is material, why did Hobbes speak of god as "infinite" and "invisible"? And so forth.
