My research is at the intersection of social philosophy, the philosophy of language, metametaphysics, and value theory (aesthetics). My research is at the intersection of social philosophy, the philosophy of language, metametaphysics, and value theory (aesthetics). I am especially interested in how language functions to reinforce norms and reveal group boundaries. My dissertation introduces and defends a model of humor as a cultural technology for manipulating social norms. I have other interests in the philosophy of law, feminist metaphysics, the philosophy of pop culture, and conceptual engineering as well.
I am also an Emerging Scholar with the Mark Twain Circle of America, and I am developing a manuscript that establishes Twain as an early neo-pragmatist and shows how Twain's ideas about language can inform contemporary debates over fake news, conspiracy theories, and bullshit (to name a few).
