My research lies at the intersection of social philosophy, the philosophy of language, metametaphysics, and value theory (aesthetics). I am especially interested in how language functions to reinforce norms and reveal group boundaries. My dissertation introduces and defends a model of humor as a cultural technology for manipulating social norms. I have other interests in the philosophy of law, feminist metaphysics, the philosophy of pop culture, and conceptual engineering as well.
I am also an Emerging Scholar with the Mark Twain Circle of America, and I am developing a manuscript that establishes Twain as an early neo-pragmatist and shows how Twain's ideas about language can inform contemporary debates over fake news, conspiracy theories, and bullshit (to name a few).
