I am Professor Emerita of Philosophy at William & Mary and co-editor of Hume Studies, with Mark Spencer (Brock University) until July 2026. I am also co-editor, with Peter Millican (Oxford & NUS), of the new Cambridge Elements series on Hume's philosophy. My research centers on Hume's theory of the passions and action and on his moral theory. I also have interests in the implications of Hume's theory of motivation for contemporary ethics and in practical reasoning, virtue ethics, and early modern theories of the emotions.
