I work mainly on topics in moral psychology, including self-knowledge and self-opacity, emotions, imagination, psychoanalytic theory, and also on aesthetics and film. My thinking is typically grounded in Kant and Freud, but I've also written about James Baldwin, Stanley Cavell, Annie Ernaux, Iris Murdoch, and Bernard Williams. I'm currently writing a book tentatively titled Opacity and Experience, under contract with Harvard University Press. (background photo from Douglas Sirk's All That Heaven Allows)
