In this essay, we examine the connection between the uncertainty of chaotic phenomena and Sartre's concept of anguish, alongside the banality of evil. We demonstrate that anguish originates from human freedom as defined by Sartre and manifests as anxiety when faced with choices in an unpredictable world. However, by trying to avoid anguish, we risk descending into the banality of evil, whereby a lack of reflection on the consequences of our actions affects not only our own lives, but also those of others. Finally, we argue that Stoic ideas offer a potential solution to this dilemma, as discussed throughout the text. Throughout the text, we explore unpredictability as a connecting thread between science, existentialism, and political philosophy.
