Outwith the Human: Marx, Engels and the Boundaries of the Universal: My doctoral project examines how categories that present themselves as universal and emancipatory can nevertheless produce exclusion. Grounded in close textual analysis of the early writings of Marx and Engels, the project focuses on three central categories: labour, humanity, and historical development. It asks how these categories shape the boundaries of political agency, historical legitimacy, and recognition within Marx’s early thought.
