I'm interested in teleology and biological individuality. Currently, much of my work aims to develop a new theory of goal directed systems. This research is part of the project "Purpose, Agency, and Field Theory", where I'm serving as a co-lead with Dan McShea (see https://www.templeton.org/grant/purpose-agency-and-field-theory) Other areas of my research focus on how recent developments in synthetic biology, studies on functional immortality and other similar areas of empirical research seem to alter our understanding of certain biological concepts like reproduction, lineages and species.
