Science background but completed degrees in history (Trinity College, Saarland University, with PhD from Michigan State University), with specialty in early European Medieval History. Taught world history. Wrote (Das befriete Gebeit Südchina: Briefmarkenkatalog und Postalgeschichte (Essen, 1981). Currently working on a book, Historical Materialism, an update and exposition of orthodox Marxism.
