I am a PhD Candidate at the University of Nottingham, developing a novel perfectionist theory of well-being that can be used in the quest to understand how our lives can go well for us. I am drawing on the political philosophy of Hannah Arendt, specifically her concepts of 'the human condition', 'political action' and 'natality' in order to provide a resolution to the philosophical objections that are found within current perfectionist theories.
By asserting that political action is intrinsically valuable, I will show how my theory could be used to argue for the state promotion of an individual's own search for what is good for themselves.
