Henry Laycock

I am a graduate of University College, Oxford, a Visitng Fellow of Clare Hall, Cambridge, a Visiting Professor at the University of Padua, and also a Life Member of Clare Hall ..Much my most recent publication is “The Concept of a Substance and its Linguistic Embodiment”, in the journal Philosophies (Beijing, 2023, 8), appearing as part of a collection edited by Christie Miller and Josh Mozersky -- a special Issue entitled The Nature of Structure and the Structure of Nature. The paper is a detailed defense of a view originally advanced by the distinguished Danish linguist Otto.Jespersen concerning mass words, and cannot be represented in the First (or Second) Order Predicate Calculus.
