When hooks addresses critical thinking explicitly, she reorients critical thinking toward practical aims, specifically democratic social progress. In order to better understand the potential value of her approach, and the relationship between critical thinking and democracy, I attempt to situate her conception of critical thinking as practical wisdom within current philosophical scholarship on critical thinking.
