As an established Information Ethicist and consultant, I have collaborated with and advised numerous stakeholders on ethics best practices in technology, information and data use for nearly a decade. I have led business leaders, industry experts, government officials and academics on ethics in data use, technology policy, information ethics, and ethics for artificial intelligence. I have managed international teams on the creation of ethics standards and methodologies and spoken at both the World Internet Conference and the World Government Summit. I hold the Data & Analytics Ethics Advisor role for the City of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
I chair two leading international groups involved in technology and information ethics research, being the committee on Classical Ethics for Autonomous and Intelligent Systems (IEEE) and the International Center for Information Ethics (KIAS, University of Alberta), where I lead researchers and analysts in the identification of ethical concerns towards solutions to some of the most pressing ethical issues facing an ICT-driven society, including issues of disclosure, algorithmic bias, transparency, internet governance, privacy, internet inclusion, confidentiality and human autonomy. I also sit on the Board of Directors of the Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (CPLEA) where I provide insight into digital ethics in law.
I have written and published extensively in the field of Information Ethics, including producing and editing reports, presentations, and articles. My work is published with McFarland & Company Inc., Springer, Confluence: Online Journal of World Philosophies, and IEEE. I am the co-editor of the Festschrift: Information Cultures in the Digital Age, published by Springer VS. My speaking engagements cover subjects of Information Ethics, AI Ethics, Internet Governance, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Digital Citizenship.
