© 2015 The American Society of Transplantation and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. The need to increase the donor pool for lung transplantation is a major public health issue. We previously found that administration of mesenchymal stem cells "rehabilitated" marginal donor lungs rejected for transplantation using ex vivo lung perfusion. However, the use of stem cells has some inherent limitation such as the potential for tumor formation. In the current study, we hypothesized that mic…Read more

We present a measurement of the rate of distant Type la supernovae derived using four large subsets of data from the Supernova Cosmology Project. Within this fiducial sample, which surveyed about 12 deg2, 38 supernovae were detected at redshifts 0.25-0.85. In a spatially flat cosmological model consistent with the results obtained by the Supernova Cosmology Project, we derive a rest-frame Type la supernova rate at a mean redshift z ≃ 0.55 of 1.53-0.25-0.31-0.28-0.32 × 10-4 h 3 Mpc-3 yr-1 or 0.58…Read more
  • Therapeutic effects of human mesenchymal stem cell-derived microvesicles in severe pneumonia in mice
    with A. Monsel, Y. G. Zhu, S. Gennai, Q. Hao, S. Hu, J. J. Rouby, M. Rosenzwajg, and M. A. Matthay
© 2015 by the American Thoracic Society. Rationale: Microvesicles are anuclear fragments of cells released from the endosomal compartment or shed from surface membranes. We and other investigators demonstrated that MVs released by mesenchymal stem cells were as effective as the cells themselves in inflammatory injuries, such as after endotoxininduced acute lung injury. However, the therapeutic effects of MVs in an infectious model of acute lung injury remain unknown. Objectives: We investigated …Read more
