Jean Moritz Müller

My research is mainly focused on two issues: (i) the intentionality of emotions as well as their connection with value; (ii) responsiveness to reasons, in particular the role reason-responsiveness plays within a general account of the nature and normativity of mental attitudes.  These issues are closely related in that I understand the connection between emotions and values in terms of reason-responsiveness. In examining this connection in the context of my PhD dissertation at the University of Manchester, I have developed a more general interest in our engagement with reasons and am currently exploring the prospects of a unified account of mental attitudes according to which their fundamental standard of correctness specifies a reason to which appropriate instances of this attitude are responsive.
