Jeffrey Brooks

I specialize in social science research and application in environmental assessment, planning, and natural resources management. My focus areas include collaborative resource management; sociocultural systems; subsistence activities and harvest patterns; conservation ecology; indigenous knowledge; environmental impacts analysis; fish and wildlife management; outdoor recreation; decision-making processes; and public participation in the context of the outer continental shelf and other federal public lands and waters in Alaska. My research draws on diverse theories, methods, and applications from social psychology, environmental psychology, cultural anthropology, and recreation and leisure studies. I enjoy being an applied social scientist, serving resource planners and managers in agencies and pursuing a strong interest in collaborative research with colleagues at universities and other research institutions. I completed a Ph.D. at Colorado State University (CSU) in 2003. I worked as a research associate in the Department of Journalism and Technical Communication at CSU 2003 to 2004. I completed a postdoctoral position with the USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Research Station in 2006. I have served as a social scientist with the U.S. Department of the Interior in Alaska since 2008.
