I have spent the last 10 years investigating and developing Evidence- BasedMedicine 'hierarchies¹ of evidence, with a focus on placebo controls. My work in this area culminated in a book, The Philosophy of Evidence-Based Medicine (Blackwell/Wiley 2011), and the redesign of the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine ŒLevels of Evidence¹. My current research involves both foundational research (ethics and analytic philosophy) as well as clinical epidemiology (systematic reviews, surveys) to investigate ways to improve the adequacy of control treatments used in clinical trials.
