I am deeply concerned with (and invested in) the human phenomenon, which I am inclined to think represents a radical departure from all other organizations of matter. I am deeply concerned with (and invested in) the human phenomenon, which I am inclined to think represents a radical departure from all other organizations of matter. More specifically, I am interested in the ways various and diverse people understand reality and the human condition, and the experiences and processes involved in the development of this understanding. In other words, I want to take an anthropological approach to the study of philosophy itself, including both 'professional' thinkers as well as other individuals and communities. This means that I believe every human being is a 'philosopher,' including children, though some adults possess gifts in conceptual language and metacognition that allow them to approach an understanding in a significantly more systematic way. Finally, I am fascinated by the history of Western thought and its relationship to our history and cultural peculiarity.
