John c. Carney

John Carney grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He served in the U.S. Navy and attended Brooklyn College. While working in social services in New York City, he attended the New School for Social Research. At the New School, John was fortunate to study with David Gordon, Reiner Schurman, and other astounding thinkers. He received his M.A. in Philosophy and subsequently his Ph.D. in 2004. John's dissertation was on Jean-Paul Sartre's philosophy. His subsequent teaching and scholarship is in the area of political and social philosophy. John is currently working on a book on alienation in the United States. It is titled, Estranged. John is Emeritus Associate Professorears at Manhattanville College in New York. In 2013 he to Maine to conduct research. While in Maine, John taught Philosophy and Political Science as Visiting Professor at the University of New England. In 2016 John moved back to the New York area. He currently teaches part-time at the University of Connecticut.
