I'm a historian of eighteenth century agriculture and politics of the natural world, with a regional focus on Britain and its expanding empire. I've published on the emergence of an experimental and scientific agriculture, the growth of bureaucracy in addressing food scarcity and famine, and also on the environmental pressures of crop disease, drought, and soil exhaustion. Current research projects are focused on the history of mining in Cornwall and also the development of entomology.
