I am researching Kierkegaard's view of faith, reason, and existential despair, with a focus on his concept of reason as it relates to that of the Enlightenment, Kant, Jacobi, and Hamann. My aim is to find a more positive relationship between reason and faith that goes beyond the Kierkegaardian disjunction, whilst also challenging his claim as to the inevitability of existential despair in a life without religious faith. The role of language will be a key consideration in the possible solution to the problem posed by Kierkegaard's call for the submerging of reason in the leap of faith.
