José Jorge Mendoza

I am an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Washington and book review editor at Radical Philosophy Review. I received my B.A. from the University of California at San Diego (2002), my M.A. from San Francisco State University (2006), and my Ph.D. from the University of Oregon (2012). My areas of specialization are in Moral and Political Philosophy, Philosophy of Race, and Latin American Philosophy. In general, my research is on global justice, especially issues that expose the tension between democratic autonomy (i.e., a peoples’ right to self-determination) and universal human rights norms (i.e., commitments to universal equality and the liberty of individuals). Recently, my attention has been focused on the issue of immigration with the aim of providing a philosophical defense of immigrant rights.
