In this paper, my main aim is to look closely at a passage in the Section “Of the Reason of Animals” of Hume's first Enquiry and to see how a Husserl-based reading of it sheds light on the concepts of reason and inference as used by Hume. In section 1, I briefly resume the content and function of Hume’s “Of the Reason of Animals” both in the Treatise and the Enquiry; next, I bring in the some concepts and theories from Husserl and speak about the general affinity between Husserl and Hume; and finally, I read closely the selected passage from Hume's Enquiry with help of the Husserlean toolkit and show what Hume most likely meant by „reason“ and „inference“ (at least in this passage).

The published compilation of correspondence between Hans Albert and Karl Popper is observed in its historical context and examined for its possible contribution to the understanding of their philosophy and Popper’s theory of translation (this contribution, however, proved to be small). The main results achieved were: 1) The writing of Albert’s main work, Treatise on Critical Reason, was made possible in the second half of 1967 by the failure of his other project (a collection of translations of texts by critical rationalists). 2) The rhetoric of the Treatise was influenced by Albert’s then close relationship with Paul Feyerabend. 3) Albert places the therapeutic-educational mission of his work (the fight against irrationalism and the offer of a more reasonable alternative) above the search for truth. 4) From the point of view of care for the community, Albert was the most successful philosopher of the 20th century. 5) The main credit for this remarkable success goes to the remarkable asymmetrical synergy of the Albert – Popper collaboration, the more precise description of which this article is dedicated to.

The review of Kéž je všecko ku prospěchu obce! (May everything be to the benefit of the community!), published by Academia and OIKOYMENH, editor Petr Blažek, focuses on four themes: what do the documents say about Patočka, about the secret police, about the fate of Patočka’s textual estate, and about the post-November iinvestigation of the repressive measures taken against Patočka. This study draws attention, among other things, to Patočka’s intention to depart to West Germany in 1976, the influence of the misidentification of the two Chvatíks on the successful progress of work on the publication of Patočka’s texts, Karel Kosík’s plan to revise the Heretical Essays and Two Studies on Masaryk, and above all the overlooking, by the editor of this volume (and the investigators from the 1990s), of the climax of the secret police repression against Patočka on March 2, 1977.
