My primary field of research incorporates both social and political philosophy. My PhD concerning the nature of collective action, that is, what it means for us to be collective agents.
I defend an approach to collective action that seeks to bring together Margaret Gilbert's non-summative account of collective action with an account of the normative force of collective intentions derived from Michael Bratman's planning theory of agency.
I am interested in wider questions in the newly emerging field of philosophy of society, including the nature of social rules and the individualism versus collectivism/holism debate.
In the sphere of political philosophy I am especially interested in debates about autonomy as connecting the sphere of political philosophy with that of action theory. One of my research aspirations is to produce an account that can robustly link questions of practical political philosophy with an explanation of the underlying nature of social reality.
