Degree of structural perfection of icosahedral quasicrystalline grains investigated by synchrotron X-ray diffractometry and imaging techniques
with J. Gastaldi, S. Agliozzo, A. Létoublon, and L. Mancini
    Philosophical Magazine 83 (1): 1-29. 2003.
A study of the structural perfection of icosahedral quasicrystalline grains of various alloys and Al-Cu-Fe), grown by different slow solidification techniques was performed using high-resolution diffraction, including recording rocking curves combined with X-ray topography and phase contrast radiography, at a third-generation synchrotron radiation source . For Al-Pd-Mn, additional coherent diffraction and diffuse scattering measurements were also carried out. After evaluating the potentialities …Read more

Industry groups engage in venue shifting when they seek to overturn or alter restrictive regulations imposed by one political venue through another. A critical step in this process is resolving uncertainties surrounding the preference of the targeted venue and the nature of the relevant policy proposal. While existing studies emphasize a long-term trial-and-error process of policy learning, we focus on nascent industries and argue that ventures seek other information sources to resolve these unc…Read more

China is developing an ethical and sustainable organ donation and procurement system based on voluntary citizen donation. The gift-of-life metaphor has begun to dominate public discussion and education about organ donation. However, ethical and legal problems remain concerning this “gift-of-life” discourse: In what sense are donated organs a “gift-of-life”? What constitutes the ultimate worth of such a gift? On whose authority should organs as a “gift-of-life” be donated? There are no universal …Read more

The advent of the intelligence age has injected new elements into the development of literature. The synergic modification of Anglo-American traumatic narrative literature by artificial intelligence technology and interactive design psychology will produce new possibilities in literary creation. First, by studying natural language processing technology, this study proposes a modification language model based on the double-layered recurrent neural network algorithm and constructs an intelligent l…Read more

Should We Develop Empathy for Social Robots?
In Ruiping Fan & Mark J. Cherry (eds.), Sex Robots: Social Impact and the Future of Human Relations, Springer. pp. 41-55. 2021.
Artificial intelligence technology and human-like robots raise key questions regarding appropriate relationships between humans and such social robots. These artificial, AI infused, creations are programmed to mimic and manipulate human emotions so as to provide affective companionship for humans. How should we treat them: as a mere machine, as a fellow human being, or as some third thing set in between the two? This chapter explores the ethical implications of affective, emphatic connections wi…Read more

Neither Xi (洗) Nor Jin (浸), But Fu (袚): Zhang Yijing’s (张亦镜) Translation of Baptism, Viewed from the Perspective of Identity
Transformation: An International Journal of Holistic Mission Studies 34 (3): 214-222. 2017.
This paper studies the key issue of how the concept of baptism is translated into Chinese. The primary source material is a series of papers written by Zhang Yijing and published in True Light during the 1920s. Reviewing Zhang’s work, I argue that translation strategies alone are insufficient to explain the choice of translation used. This conclusion is supported by a text analysis of his translation choices and a survey of the methods used. Building on the theory of identity, it is argued that …Read more
