I am interested in three broad areas: freedom and agency; reason and reasons; norms and values. I have a long-standing interest in the history of philosophy, especially Kant and Hegel. I have written two monographs, one on Kant and the Culture of Enlightenment (2005), which treats rational autonomy and free speech, and one on The Scope of Autonomy: Kant and the Morality of Freedom (2012), which treats moral autonomy. I am now working on another book-length project, on freedom.
