This paper examines Sherri Irvin’s concept of aesthetic exploration, which seeks to resist exclusionary beauty norms through perceptual openness and individual empowerment. Although Irvin’s framework broadens the scope of aesthetic appreciation, I contend that when aesthetic exploration is insufficiently integrated with shared evaluative frameworks, it risks forms of abstraction, isolation, and loss of normative coherence. These risks do not arise from aesthetic detachment as such, which is intrinsic to aesthetic experience, but from a mode of exploration that lacks resources for reflective correction and social integration. In response, I develop a brief account of aesthetically conscientious practice (ACP), a reflective model that preserves perceptual openness while embedding aesthetic judgment within relational and normative processes. Guided by three principles of balance, inclusivity, and mutual correction, ACP aligns aesthetic freedom with social responsibility without reducing aesthetic judgment to ethical evaluation. The framework shows how aesthetic life, when practised conscientiously, can sustain both individual autonomy and shared meaning, supporting justice and the renewal of cultural value.

This paper develops an account of recognition as a normative orientation to others’ evaluative features. Against strong attribution models, I argue that recognition does not generate value or normative reasons but orients agents to evaluative features that already ground responsibilities. I analyze recognitional competence into five interdependent dimensions and show how recognition may succeed or fail at distinct loci. I then examine how institutionalized cultural value patterns mediate these dimensions, producing patterned forms of misrecognition. Drawing on Fraser’s criterion of participatory parity as a heuristic for diagnosing structural distortion, I argue that repair must operate across intrapersonal, interpersonal, and institutional levels. The result is a framework that connects an agent-centered account of recognitional competence with an account of the socio-structural conditions under which that competence succeeds or fails.

In this interview with the ECPS, I offer a nuanced assessment of Bangladesh’s post-2026 political transition. Reflecting on the first general election after the 2024 uprising that toppled Sheikh Hasina, I argue that a landslide electoral mandate alone cannot resolve the country’s democratic deficit. What matters, I emphasize, is whether “procedural legitimacy, constitutional legitimacy, and sociological legitimacy are present.” I warn that preventing a “reverse norm cascade” depends less on electoral formalities than on how political actors behave in power—especially the ruling party. Stressing trust, institutional restraint, and freedom of criticism, I argue that Bangladesh’s democratic future will hinge on whether political parties govern responsibly, inclusively, and within genuinely pluralist constitutional limits. By combining the July National Charter (Constitutional Reform) Implementation Order, 2025, with the constitutional reform proposals contained in the July National Charter within a single ballot question, the referendum failed to make clear precisely what voters were being asked to approve. The article contends that the ballot’s linguistic ambiguity, the presentational inconsistency between the two documents, and the structural limitations of the question collectively rendered the referendum mandate indeterminate. As a result, competing interpretations emerged regarding both the scope of the people's consent and the constitutional authority that could legitimately be derived from it.]

This article argues that the February 2026 referendum conferred a democratic mandate for constitutional reform but not unlimited authority for institutional redesign. It analyses the electoral realignment among the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the National Citizen Party, the continuing political significance of the 1971 Liberation War narrative, questions of women’s political inclusion, and the governance challenges facing the incoming BNP-led government. The article argues that future instability may arise not merely from partisan rivalry but from tensions embedded within the constitutional reform process itself, particularly between electoral mandates, referendum authorisation, and competing interpretations of the July National Charter. It concludes that the management of these tensions will determine whether Bangladesh’s transition consolidates into constitutional stability or produces renewed political contestation.

This article examines whether Bangladesh’s interim government can legitimately advocate a “Yes” vote in the 2026 referendum on reforms proposed in the July National Charter while preserving the neutrality and credibility of the process. The article contends that genuine political renewal requires not merely new actors or rhetoric, but sustained clarity, organisational discipline, internal democracy, principled inclusion, and trustworthy political conduct.

This paper builds on Amartya Sen’s arguments, which, while not explicitly declaring sustainable development a social responsibility, implicitly support this through his discussions on society, social systems, freedom, rights, and responsibilities. I argue that a careful analysis of Sen’s works can yield a rights-based argument that frames sustainable development as a universal social responsibility. By drawing parallels between Sen’s and Breyer’s rights-based theories, this paper strengthens the claim that all generations belong to an overarching trans-generational community, similar to the narrative described by MacIntyre. This trans-generational perspective mandates sustainable development initiatives that will contribute to fulfilling our universal social responsibilities to future generations.]

Although OBE seeks to align education with measurable competencies and employment-oriented outcomes, in practice it often risks reducing education to an instrument of economic productivity. Consequently, fundamental educational aims such as moral development, civic responsibility, and intellectual autonomy may be marginalized. Drawing on core principles of administrative ethics, including justice, participation, and respect for personhood, the article identifies several significant ethical shortcomings in the existing OBE framework. These include the devaluation of philosophical and humanistic knowledge, limited participation in educational policymaking, and the inadequate integration of ethical practice into professional education. The article argues that the responsibilities of educational administrators extend beyond the achievement of measurable competencies and outcomes to include ethically informed, principled, and public-oriented decision-making. It therefore proposes an ethically grounded framework for reform that recognizes a plurality of educational values and seeks to reorient education toward human development by cultivating critical judgment, democratic consciousness, and ethical self-reflection.]

This article addresses epistemic injustices committed by micro-credit non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in rural Bangladesh, filling a gap in the micro-credit literature. While micro-credit is often praised for promoting positive social change, critics argue that the Bangladeshi model has failed to deliver its promised benefits. Existing research has identified various adverse effects of micro-credit practices, but little attention has been paid to their epistemic dimensions. Applying the philosophical theory of epistemic injustice, this study examines the epistemic concerns and harms caused by micro-credit NGOs in rural Bangladesh. It identifies instances of testimonial injustice, hermeneutical injustice, self-fulfilling testimonial injustice, and willful hermeneutical ignorance. The article further identifies five conditions that contribute to epistemic injustice in micro-credit lending: disadvantage, prejudice, stakeholder, epistemic, and social justice. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of recognizing and addressing these injustices to create more equitable micro-credit systems.

Such imagery hints at leadership defined by composure rather than spectacle. Yet, questions linger over Tarique’s prolonged absence, raising issues of presence, accountability, and legitimacy. While symbolism and emotional tone shape modern politics, true leadership demands physical presence and action. In Bangladesh’s tense political landscape, gestures alone cannot replace the responsibility and trust that visible engagement requires.

Bangladesh faces a crisis not of chaos, but of silent erosion—where fear suppresses truth and conformity replaces dignity. Despite claims of reform, censorship and control persist, stifling genuine dialogue and civic courage. Institutions, from schools to media, breed caution over candour, turning honesty into a dangerous act. True reform demands space for dissent, accountability, and moral clarity. Without conscience and shared responsibility, the nation risks becoming orderly yet hollow—building infrastructure while losing the capacity for truth and dignity.

Bangladesh’s political discourse is torn between urgent elections and the need for structural reform. While the BNP demands swift polls to end authoritarian rule, others insist reforms must precede any vote. Arguing that neither path alone suffices, the author proposes elections coupled with a binding reform mandate, enforced constitutionally or via political accords. This approach seeks to prevent past failures where democratic transitions lacked substantive change, aiming instead for a system where power is inseparable from reform-driven accountability.
