While cosmopolitanism is significant in a globalized society, globalization reveals the plurality of cultures and it remains unclear how cosmopolitanism can be universally accepted beyond cultural contexts. This paper attempts to discover an intercultural foundation of cosmopolitan hope and defend its permissibility and rationality. Two possible approaches were examined: the overlapping consensus approach (OCA) and the constructivist approach (CA). The CA is more suitable, but it must be supplemented by the unity requirement (UR) to overcome all problems regarding the foundation of cosmopolitan hope. Furthermore, I clarify how UR fosters an expectation for cosmopolitan order and contributes to the constitution of practical identity, which renders cosmopolitan hope permissible and rational.
