This paper assesses the concepts of cognitive disorientation, conceptual creativity, and deliberative agency in Uchenna Okeja’s book _Deliberative Agency_. I argue that the centrality given to the idea of conceptual loss narrows the field of applicability for cognitive disorientation to such an extent that it risks losing its explanatory potential—I call this the problem of explanation. On conceptual creativity, I advance that the normative value of the African past stands in need of more justification than is currently offered—I call this the problem of normativity. And, lastly, on deliberative agency, I show that the author’s faith in collective good will does not appreciate the experience of cognitive disorientation within political failure from the perspective of individual persons—I call this the problem of cooperation.
