My research concerns explanation and causation, particularly in the domains of biology, neuroscience and medicine. My work examines common types of causal complexity in the biological sciences, the challenges they pose for explanation, and how scientists overcome these challenges. Before coming to Pittsburgh I received my M.D. from the University of California, Irvine and my B.S. from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.
