Lava Schadde

I'm a PhD student at the department of philosophy at the CUNY Graduate Center. My interests lie in feminist and trans philosophy, philosophy of language, and social ontology. Broadly, I work on issues concerning sex, and the injustices the analytic sex/gender distinction perpetuates against trans people. I've thought about how we might ameliorate a concept of sex that aims to do better justice to trans experiences. I'm also interested in phenomenology and social epistemology to further explore questions like: What kind of knowledge can we have of our bodies/sex? What are the implications of such knowledge for the concept of sex? What can and should a concept of sex do for us in feminist theorizing? Before joining CUNY, I received a BA degree in Philosophy and History from the University of Zurich, and studied Philosophy in the MA program at the Free University of Berlin.
