Lourdes Velázquez, born in Mexico City, obtained a joint B.A. in Philosophy from the University Panamericana and UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) of Mexico City. Following postgraduate study at the Universities of Navarra (Spain), after studies supported by a scholarship from the Mexican Council for Science and Research (CONACYT) Genoa (Italy) she obtained a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Genoa and spent research and teaching activities at that University for several years. Her research fields were first epistemology and the study of philosophical and scientific doctrines in pre-Hispanic Mexican cultures. then she moved to bioethics, in which she obtained a Master degree (at the Ateneo Regina Apostolorum in Rome) and a Doctorate (at the Universidad Anáhuac of México). She also obtained a Master in Philosophy and Existential Anthropology at the European University of Rome.
She had several teaching appojntments at universities in Mexico and Italy and from 2009 on she has had a professor tenure at the Universidad Anáhuac of Mexico as well as an appointment as titular professor of Latin-American Philosophy at the Pontifical University of Mexico. Since 2013 she is full professor at the Panamericana University of Mexico City
Her publications include 5 books (+ 3 translations) and about ,over 150 articles and book chapters in the domains of epistemology, history and philosophy of pre-Hispanic Mexican cultures, bioethics. She is a Consulting Editor of the professional journals Anthropos & Iatria (Italy), Clepsydra (Spain), Medicina y ética (Mexico), Bioethics Update (Mexico)
She has participated as an invited speaker in several international and national congresses and has presented contributed papers at the seven last World Congresses of Philosophy from 1988 to 2018. She has been visiting professor at universities in Mexico, Italy, Spain and Latin America
