O artigo propõe a análise de algumas passagens do Filebo, nas quais se discute a relação entre prazer e loucura. Inicialmente (15D9-16A3), Sócrates aponta para os excessos de prazer que um jovem tende a experimentar com a descoberta do uso articulado dos argumentos, excessos que implicam numa espécie de entusiasmo que o levaria a situações de impasse; não só a ele, mas a todos os que estiverem à sua volta. Na segunda (36E5-8), contra a hipótese da mera possibilidade dos prazeres falsos, Protarco sugere que, nem em estado de loucura, alguém poderia julgar estar tendo prazer ou dor, sem de fato estar vivenciando tais experiências. Em terceiro lugar (45D6-E4), discute-se o que significa a experiência dos prazeres sem alguma imposição de limites, ou seja, o excesso, a falta de moderação e a falta de discernimento são julgados como equivalentes a algum tipo de loucura. Trata-se de avaliar o valor do prazer, no âmbito da vida mista, com critérios tanto quantitativos, quanto qualitativos. Finalmente (63D2-64A5), no embate entre prazeres e pensamentos ou reflexões, imagina-se o quanto o excesso de uns impede o cultivo de outros, levando as almas à loucura e causando esquecimento e descuido no modo de se conduzir a vida.

Sixty years ago, Derek de Solla Price’s influential _Little Science, Big Science_ first documented that from 1900 scientific publications doubled every 10–15 years and then predicted that limited resources would end rapid progress leading to an imminent “scientific doomsday”—a strikingly false prediction given that contemporary global mega-science annually yields 3.5 million mainline STEMM journal research papers. Nevertheless, the idea of a coming crisis persists—supposedly current expansion is stagnating quality. Argued instead is that what was missed, then and now, is a worldwide deepening of _scientization_—the embedding of science as a core social institution, marked by expanded research capacity, diversification into new domains, and increasing specialization. Employing sociological insights about historical institutional development, Price’s empirics are extended to explain why STEMM productivity never plateaued. Fueled by a worldwide education revolution, universities enact three institutionalizing roles: _institutional entrepreneurs; main corporate units of research_; and a fiduciary of the _generalized symbolic medium_ of papers. Illustrated by analyses from a recent bibliometric study of 3.3 million papers from 1900 to 2020, it is further suggested that instead of decline, through university-driven scientization the scale and capacity of science as a mature institution reshape the dynamics of discovery supporting sustained growth and quality.

The European Universities Initiative (EUI), created by the European Commission in 2017, is a recent novel phenomenon within the European Union policy toolkit that explicitly targets the development of transnational cooperation in higher education (HE). To date, the EUI counts 44 European university alliances, involving around 340 HE institutions. In this paper, we argue that the EUI can be seen as a case of a transnational institution building process representing a potentially significant structural reform for European higher education. Anchored in new institutionalism, we explore the regulative, normative, and cultural-cognitive dimensions of the EUI. Methodologically, this study analyzes the perspectives of European policy actors (n = 4), a set of policy documents (n = 13) and the mission statements of the EUI’s partnerships funded before 2022 (n = 41). The results show that the EUI emerges as the ‘next level of cooperation’ in European HE since it aims to transform European cooperation (regulative dimension), to create and diffuse a new model for European HE following a challenge-based approach (normative dimension), and to work as a way to reinforce and institutionalize European and global scripts for European HE (cultural-cognitive dimension).

Este artículo trata sobre el significado de la phantasia en los diálogos de Platón, tomando en cuenta los contextos dialécticos en los que diferentes representaciones y opiniones son examinados y sometidos a refutación: las apariciones de los dioses tal como imaginaron los poetas no son una buen fundamento para la paideia de los ciudadanos, ni son conocimiento sólido las apariciones en la percepción ; las imágenes verbales producidas por el sofista son inconsistentes y deberían, como las imágenes proyectadas en el viviente, ser el objeto del análisis crítico y la interpretación. No obstante, sostenemos que, en los diálogos como un todo, la phantasia no es, a priori, falsa.

This book collects texts from three specialists in ancient philosophy which deal with the question of perceptive and intellective knowledge in antiquity. They try to present, in their different analyzes, the complex interrelationship among perception and thought in ancient authors, like Heraclitus, Parmenides, Democritus, Plato and Aristotle. The purpose of the texts is to expose the visible field - the perceptual knowledge domain - interacts with the invisible - the domain of reason and thought. In other words, that among them there is no a radical separation of these two areas, although they are clearly distinct.

O propósito deste artigo é analisar algumas passagens sobre a percepção sensível no Filebo de Platão, tendo em vista a relação entre prazer e memória. No contexto da análise dos prazeres (31B-39A), que tipos ou níveis diferentes de memória podemos efetivamente identificar de maneira consistente com as exigências da argumentação? Proponho reconhecermos um gênero maior que é a memória, com duas espécies, que se diferenciam, seja pelo processo, seja pelo resultado: a lembrança ( mn é m e ), vista como preservação da percepção, e a rememoração ( anámn e sis ), compreendida como recuperação de diferentes afecções experimentadas através do corpo, percepções ou conhecimentos
