Photosensitivity is a neurological condition in which the brain produces epileptic reactions known as Photoparoxysmal Responses (PPR) to certain visual stimuli, which may trigger epileptic seizures in the worst cases. This pathology is diagnosed through a standardized protocol called Intermittent Photic Stimulation consisting of stimulating the patient with a flashing light while recording the brain activity by Electroencephalogram (EEG) until a PPR is triggered. Due to the nature of the stimulation process and the photosensitivity’s low prevalence, the automatic detection of PPR becomes a highly unbalanced problem where PPR activity can be considered as anomalous activity surrounded by large portions of normal brain activity. This research proposes the use of a Variational Autoencoder (VAE) to extract features from the EEG segments by reducing them into the latent space to train several Anomaly Detection models proposed by the literature and compare their PPR detection performance. Results show that no AD model could detect any PPR activity correctly while the VAE model, also used for this task in our previous research, reached Accuracy, Sensitivity, and Specificity values of around 85%.

Mary B. Hesse’s modified realism offers an original perspective on the dynamic nature of scientific knowledge in the landscape of twentieth century philosophy of science. Although her work on models and metaphors is quite acknowledged and frequently referenced, her realistic proposal is mostly forgotten or ignored. The aim of this paper is to present some of the main features of this perspective grounded in her epistemological proposal, the Network Model. This model for understanding scientific theories portrays scientific concepts as intricately interconnected, emphasizing the complex relationships within theories. Hesse places a spotlight on the pivotal role of language, contending that linguistic expression shapes scientific understanding and fosters connections between ideas. We will discuss the fundamental theses of this model, as well as some of its consequences for central issues in the philosophy of science, like theory-ladenness or the distinction between theoretical and observational statements. Hesse’s modified realism, embraces the nuanced and dynamic character of scientific development. Departing from traditional approaches, her realistic conception acknowledges the continuous evolution and interplay of ideas in scientific practice. This dynamic perspective aligns with the complexities of real scientific inquiry, offering a more authentic framework for comprehending the development of scientific knowledge.

El trabajo interroga algunos de los extensos debates que se han producido en Argentina vinculados a la construcción y recuperación de archivos feministas y de la comunidad LGBTIQ. Teniendo como trasfondo una experiencia de construcción de memoria oral en la ciudad de Paraná (Entre Ríos, Argentina), se recuperan, en primer lugar, los aportes producidos desde el denominado giro afectivo, en su reinterpretación, desplazamiento, interrogación y producción contemporánea alrededor de los procesos de archivo y construcción de memoria. Estos debates han puesto de manifiesto que el archivo es siempre una disputa sobre quien archiva, sobre a quienes se archiva y dónde se archiva, sobre qué materiales merecen reconocimiento como acervo público y qué implica la construcción visual de los archivos para esas comunidades históricamente invisibilizadas. En síntesis, la disputa nunca inocente alrededor de cómo pensamos el qué, el para qué y el cómo del archivo. En este marco, se indaga sobre cómo las comunidades LGBTIQ+ y feministas han aportado al debate que interroga la idea misma de documento y la dificultad alrededor de su clarividencia como evidencia. Por ello, nos detendremos en las discusiones surgidas al calor de diferentes reconstrucciones de archivos realizadas desde los activismos feministas y LGBTIQ+ que han puesto en la mira las formas históricas de la constatación documental; o, en otras palabras, los desvíos producidos alrededor de la queerización de la evidencia. En tercer lugar, se analizan las formas que toma el debate sobre la subjetivación contemporánea y su vínculo entre archivos, propiedad y mercado en el presente neoliberal. Por último, se desandan con preguntas finales abiertas, algunas ideas vinculadas a la utilidad de seguir produciendo y construyendo archivos. Interrogantes que, en este presente convulso desde Argentina, siguen interpelando nuestros trabajos archiveros y activistas no sólo para sostener nuestros pasados sino, también, el futuro que deseamos.

The National Campaign for Legal, Safe and Free Abortion in Argentina (CNDALSyG) was created in May 2005 after a very long process that began more or at least in the transition to democracy in the 1980s. This chapter analyses the development of the Campaign, its organization, its arguments, and the presentation of the bill for the legalization of abortion. The social decriminalization was a very important process that involved multiple organizational forms, including the parliamentary lobby commission who, together with the Green Tide, was very important in all the process. We are, indeed, involved in the implementation process of Law 27610 of the Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy and new forms of organization in front of the anti-right groups.

En este artículo se formula un análisis crítico sobre el uso de Rúbricas durante los ejercicios de coevaluación entre pares sobre su desempeño en la investigación desarrollada en los estudios de posgrado. Las entrevistas a estudiantes y docentes muestran cómo se profundiza y amplía la comprensión de la descripción académica sobre el resultado que se busca por la aplicación de la metodología, debido a la observación contrastada del trabajo propio con el desempeño de los demás, de acuerdo con el sistema de la enseñanza de la metodología de investigación propuesta por Alcántara y Ramírez (2022).

La creatividad, un constructo que se ha planteado desde distintas perspectivas a lo largo de la historia y son distintos autores los que la definen, la miden y la interpretan. Este artículo quiere estudiar cómo funciona la creatividad en alumnos con altas capacidades. Para ello se aplican dos instrumentos, dos pruebas, que están contrastados, para analizar las dimensiones de la creatividad a una muestra de alumnos de secundaria. Los resultados arrogan diferencias a favor de alumnos con alta capacidad. Las conclusiones son que permite establecer una relación significativa entre la creatividad y los alumnos con alta capacidad.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo general fundamentar el mapa de funciones del docente de investigación -a quien las autoras han designado como LOI-, con el fin de que sirva de base a la generación del estándar de competencia en la enseñanza de la metodología para asegurar el aprendizaje significativo desde el enfoque constructivista. El estudio presenta los resultados alcanzados en dos conglomerados, uno que recibe la enseñanza tradicional de metodología y otro que considera el nuevo enfoque establecido en el Mapa de funciones LOI, y su impacto en la eficiencia terminal y la disminución de la deserción universitaria.

The importance of professional competence lies in the effective application of job-oriented knowledge and skills which guarantee one’s successful adaptation to the work. This study analyzes the perception of the importance of physical activity and sports professionals’ competence in working with individuals with disabilities in Spain. As a descriptive quantitative study, face-to-face interviews were conducted through a survey to extract the data. The sample consisted of 214 PAS professionals working with people with disabilities. According to the results, the analyzed constituents of professional competence are important for adequate performance, with the exception of competences of leadership and use of new technologies. It was also found that the perceived importance of each element of professional competence varies according to age, experience and training. Based on the obtained results, the degree of importance of each constituent of professional competence and its implication for the access of people with disabilities to high-quality physical activity and sports services was determined.

Diabetes has been associated with affective disorders which complicate the management of the disease. Emotional intelligence, or the ability to perceive, facilitate, understand, and regulate emotions, has shown to be a protective factor of emotional disorders in general population. The main objective of this study was to systematically review the role of the EI construct in Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics and to observe how EI is related to biological and psychological variables. Comprehensive searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, PsycInfo, and Cochrane without time limitations, for studies examining the link between diabetes and EI. A total of 12 eligible studies were selected according to the inclusion criteria. We divided the results into four sections: EI and hemoglobin glycosylated, EI training effects, differences in EI between persons with diabetes and without diabetes, and EI and psychological adjustment and well-being. The results showed negative correlations between EI and HbA1c, positive effects of EI training on quality of life, anxiety, and glycemic control, no differences in EI between people with diabetes and healthy individuals, and, finally, negative correlations between EI and different psychological variables such as diabetes-related anxiety and distress, and positive correlations with quality of life, well-being, and marital satisfaction. This systematic review offers a starting point for a theoretical and practical understanding of the role played by EI in the management of diabetes and reveals that EI is a promising protective factor for biological and psychological variables in this population.

This paper offers some clarifications about the meaning of the formula “οὐ μᾶλλον” as it is presented in one of the most controversial passages of Aristocle’s On Philosophy, where he discusses with the Pyrrhonians. My thesis is that the formula “οὐ μᾶλλον” has practical and therapeutical functions insofar as it plays the role of a purgative drug against “predication” rather than being an epistemological or metaphysical claim. In this sense, it is a philosophical tool against the vanities of dogmatism. To reach this conclusion, I will analyze the passage and the possible roots of this formula in the Socratic tradition.

El mundo de hoy se debate entre la conservación y la destrucción, en este contexto surge la necesidad de identificar e incorporar a nuestra forma de vida principios no destructivos, que garanticen la protección y conservación de la naturaleza y la especie humana a través de la relación armónica entre los seres humanos y la naturaleza. El Humanismo ecológico andino tiene como sustento ontológico el pacha y su fundamento axiológico es el allín kawsay. Este humanismo ecológico concibe que en el centro del mundo está en la naturaleza juntamente con el hombre en una interrelación armónica de reciprocidad regidos por los principios de la causalidad, la imputación y el allin kausay. Es una concepción milenaria que tiene como fin el bienestar del hombre y la naturaleza en una convivencia armónica. Esto es el humanismo ecológico andino.

This Article investigates the determinants of dividend policy in firms with concentrated ownership structures. A review of the empirical literature shows that dividend payout ratios are lower in firms with controlling shareholders. We explain this finding as a consequence of the legal rules governing cash distributions, which leave the dividend decision in the hands of the firm insiders, and the lack of monitoring mechanisms for checking the power of controlling shareholders. The analysis of the empirical evidence on dividend policy points to the existence of an unresolved agency conflict between controlling shareholders and outside investors. We conclude that controlling shareholders are currently using the dividend policy to expropriate minority shareholders.
