Socioemotional competencies (SEC) such as prosocial behaviour and emotion regulation are important for successful social interactions and develop early in life. A high moral self-concept (MSC), that is, children’s view of themselves as moral actors, can support the development and application of SEC. The transition from kindergarten to school represents a critical period requiring well-adjusted SEC and MSC, yet research on this phase remains limited. This longitudinal study assessed data of 500 German children (Mage_t1 = 60.97 months) and their teachers to examine the relation and stability of SEC and MSC over two years. After imputing data via multivariate imputation by chained equations due to missing ratings in teacher surveys, cross-lagged relations indicate that a stronger MSC in the last year of kindergarten can lead to greater SEC, which in turn can predict later MSC at the end of Grade 1. Both constructs showed stability over time, with significant correlations between SEC and MSC emerging only in primary school. Gender and socioeconomic differences for SEC and MSC were also observed. These findings enhance our understanding of the interplay between SEC and MSC and their development during the school transition.

This study used cytogenetic stocks to investigate the chromosomal location of genes responsible for polyphenol oxidase activity in common and durum wheat seeds. Substitution lines of chromosome 2A of hexaploid varieties 'Cheyenne', 'Thatcher' and 'Timstein' in 'Chinese Spring' showed significantly higher PPO activity than all other substitution lines of the same variety, with the exception of substitutions of 'Cheyenne' chromosome 3A and 'Thatcher' chromosome 4B. Substitution lines of chromosome 2A of Triticum turgidum var. dicoccoides and of chromosome 2D of 'Chinese Spring' into the tetraploid variety 'Langdon' showed a significant increase in PPO activity relative to all other substitution lines in Langdon. The gene responsible for high PPO activity in chromosome 2D from 'Chinese Spring' was mapped on the long arm within a deletion that represents 24% of the distal part of the arm. This study shows that genes located in homoeologous group 2 play a major role in the activity of PPO in wheat.

The paper explores some normative challenges concerning the integration of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms into anticorruption in public institutions. The challenges emerge from the tensions between an approach treating ML algorithms as allies to an exclusively legalistic conception of anticorruption and an approach seeing them within an institutional ethics of office accountability. We explore two main challenges. One concerns the variable opacity of some ML algorithms, which may affect public officeholders’ capacity to account for institutional processes relying upon ML techniques. The other pinpoints the risk that automating certain institutional processes may weaken officeholders’ direct engagement to take forward-looking responsibility for the working of their institution. We discuss why both challenges matter to see how ML algorithms may enhance (and not hinder) institutional answerability practices.

El objetivo de este trabajo es mostrar lo que las investigaciones realizadas desde el ámbito psicológico señalan sobre cómo se sienten las mujeres que sufren violencia en la pareja e inician un procedimiento judicial, incluso antes de interponer la denuncia. Comenzaremos señalando las dif icultades que para las mujeres conlleva denunciar a quien es o ha sido su pareja afectiva, para seguir con un análisis de lo que esperan conseguir con la denuncia, cómo se sienten tratadas en su contacto con el sistema judicial, cómo viven las primeras respuestas obtenidas, especialmente las que conciernen a las Órdenes de Protección, las emociones y expectativas a lo largo del procedimiento judicial, así como la importancia del acompañamiento y asesoramiento especializado. Para f inalizar, resaltaremos la importancia de la especialización de los y las profesionales que intervienen a lo largo del procedimiento judicial. Con dicho conocimiento sobre los aspectos emocionales y comportamentales de estas mujeres que han sufrido violencia y de los motivos que pueden explicarlos, pretendemos contribuir a una mayor comprensión de las mismas que evite la victimización secundaria y el que las mujeres acaben renunciando por una pérdida de conf ianza en el sistema judicial.
