5“Why Johnny Can’t Read” - Hannah Arendt on EducationProceedings of the XXIII World Congress of Philosophy 50 207-211. 2018.This paper discusses the way Hannah Arendt denounces the perverted consequences of pedagogical theories that wrongly identify democracy with facilitation. She searches for an answer to the plain question “Why Johnny can’t read» although his teaching is guided by the most sophisticated methods. We shall discuss the opportunity of her theories as well as the relevance of their guidelines for an adequate philosophy of education in present times.
