Max’s research focuses primarily on developing a philosophy of life and its relation to issues in aesthetics, politics, ethics, psychotherapy, religion, and environmental studies. His approach to these matters is informed by phenomenology, psychoanalysis, affect theory, critical theory, post-structuralism, and neuroscience.

His teaching has been recognized with the University Teaching Excellence Award at UPEI (2024) and the Hessian Merit Award for Excellence in Teaching (2026). He has served as the Editorial Assistant of the Journal of Aesthetics and Phenomenology and is completing his first book.
