Melanie G. Gurat graduated with the Degree Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, cum laude in 2007 at Saint Mary’s University. She also finished her Master of Arts in Teaching Mathematics in 2012 in the same school, with academic distinction. In 2017, she finished her Doctor of Philosophy in Science Education, major in Mathematics in the same university.
Outstanding Teacher. She is consistently awarded a service excellent award for her outstanding performance (2012 to 2022). She is a faculty of the School of Graduate Studies for nine years. She teaches educational statistics, research methodology, experimental designs, advanced data analysis, test and scale construction, and mathematical modeling. She also teaches mathematics subjects in undergraduate programs.
DOST-SEI CBPSME Project Director. She serves as graduate scholarship director or coordinator at Saint Mary’s University. CBPSME is Capacity Building Program in Science and Mathematics Education (CBPSME). It is a scholarship by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), in cooperation with the National Consortium in Graduate Science and Mathematics Education (NCGSME)
Trainer, Resource Speaker, and Research Presenter. She is one of the DOST-SEI Project STAR (Science Teacher Academy for the Regions) trainers. She is a qualified trainer in teaching Elementary mathematics through problem-solving, language strategies in teaching mathematics, and design thinking. She is invited as a resource speaker on topics such as statistics and research. She is a perennial presenter at local, national, and international research conferences.
Researcher/Research Author. She is skilled in doing academic research. She published 15 research papers in scholarly journals.
Statistician. She is skilled in data analysis IBM SPSS software. She served as a statistician for six years.
Book Writer. She is a book writer who authors and co-authors books such as Statistics and Research, Research in Daily Life 2, and Essentials of Statistics and Probability
Research Evaluator and Peer Reviewer. She is regularly invited as an adjudicator in regional research conferences organized by the Department of Education. She also served as a peer reviewer in Journal on Efficiency and Responsibility in Education and Science (Scopus-indexed journal), PLOS ONE (Scopus-indexed), Journal of Educational Research, Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies in Education (Scopus - indexed), and Asian Journal of Probability and Statistics.
Evaluator. TeachSTEM Master’s Degree Scholarship Program selection process. This scholarship is for outstanding students coming from low-income families and taking science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) degrees enrolled in top-ranked Philippine universities.
Technical Working Group member in DOST – SEI ocular visit and evaluation of Science and Mathematics Education Graduate Programs at Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology, Iligan City, Cagayan State University and Isabela State University.
