This paper defends the idea that justification for belief is not possession of truth. It concerns the quality of the evidence and reasoning supporting an idea and can therefore be stronger or weaker rather than merely present or absent. This reality-first account asks what a person is epistemically entitled to believe. Truth concerns whether an idea corresponds to reality; justification concerns how responsibly we are warranted in believing that it does. Reality is determinate; truth is relational; justification for belief is provisional and graduated. The position developed here originated primarily in Chapters 20, 22, and 27 of 30 Philosophers, published in 2024.

The Material-Spiritual Framework categorizes spiritual traditions by two features: framework status and spiritual orientation. A tradition functions as a rational framework when its organizing structure remains grounded within the Grand Rational Framework; otherwise, it functions as a speculative framework. Each tradition is also categorized as agnostic, non-theistic, or theistic according to its orientation toward the supernatural. Broad religious families may contain several distinct traditions and are therefore classified at the narrowest coherent level. The paper also examines how individuals relate to spiritual traditions through worldview pragmatism and the epistemic classification of individual claims. Worldview pragmatism operates as a person’s first lens and may be empirical, rational, or irrational according to how that person generally calibrates belief. Every claim, whether contained within an adopted tradition or formed outside one, must then be evaluated independently against reality through the Idea of Ideas as empirical, rational, or irrational. Irrational is a category, not an insult, and has two subtypes: speculative and disproven. This layered approach distinguishes the status of a tradition from the status of its individual claims and from the posture of the person evaluating them. It avoids treating entire traditions as simply true or false, while also refusing to shield their claims from scrutiny. Personal and cultural interpretations may remain within an individual worldview, but claims presented as descriptions of shared material reality become answerable to the public truth systems, to science, law, and journalism.

Absolute truth exists only in nature. The idea that humans possess it is a thinking error. TST affirms a correspondence view of truth grounded in mind-independent reality: an idea is true when it aligns with the aspect of reality it describes and does not conflict with it. Human understanding can improve through observation, reason, testing, and correction, but no human representation captures reality in totality. This paper distinguishes absolute truth from human truth, binary truth category from graduated degree of truth, and correspondence from belief and confidence. An idea may qualify as empirically or rationally true within its scope while still representing reality with greater or lesser accuracy, completeness, precision, and scope. In this sense, TST retains binary truth classification while also embracing the traditional idea of verisimilitude, or truthlikeness. The position developed here extends the ideas presented in Chapter 20 of 30 Philosophers, published in 2024, which builds on the distinction between objective reality and ideas introduced in Chapter 18.

This paper establishes the formal vocabulary of TST Philosophy, a science-first framework for thinking well and living well. It defines the traditional terms TST inherits, clarifies where their meanings are narrowed or extended, and identifies the terms introduced specifically by the framework. Together, these definitions stabilize TST’s metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, worldview architecture, and practical philosophy across its books, papers, and public writing. Central distinctions include the material world and ideas, empirical, rational, and irrational ideas, belief and truth, agnosticism and skepticism, personal and public worldview, and flourishing as a practical aim. The paper serves as the canonical reference for TST terminology: later papers may use these terms directly while citing this vocabulary for their complete definitions.

Rather than treating philosophy as abstract theory alone, it presents philosophy as a living journey: a way to think better, live better, and understand our place in the long story of ideas.

TST Metaphysics begins with a simple distinction: one known mind-independent world with two distinguishable layers. The first is reality itself. The second is the layer of ideas minds form within it. Within the known world, TST therefore affirms ontological monism with representational stratification: ideas are materially instantiated, yet representationally distinct from what they describe. The dependency is asymmetric. Ideas depend on reality for their existence, materials, structure, and limits. Reality does not depend on being perceived, described, or understood. TST remains agnostic about the ultimate substrate of that reality.

Imaginative Realism is the TST position that fiction arises from the recombination of real impressions rather than creation from nothing. Although fiction may purposely depart from factual reality, it remains reality-bound because imagination can only reshape materials provided by experience, perception, memory, language, emotion, and prior stories. Fictional stories are not empirically true as events, but they may still align with reality through symbolic, psychological, moral, narrative, and emotional truth. More broadly, the TST Philosophy of Fiction studies how stories relate to reality. Its central dichotomy explores truth in fiction and alignment with reality in nonfiction: fiction openly invents its narrative layer, while nonfiction is accountable for aligning that layer with what happened.
