I am interested in the ethics and epistemology of the "inner life" (emotion, perception, personality, etc.). Of special concern to me are norms that govern intermental relationships. For instance, what makes things go well when I admire how you empathize? I have been exploring such questions with respect to humans and lately artificial agents as well. My main project at the moment is to vindicate the unorthodox view that one can be directly aware of another's character traits, rather than having to infer them from known behavior, thought, or feeling.
