I am a philosopher interested in the ethics and epistemology of the inner life. Of special concern to me are norms governing intermental relationships. For instance, is there a requirement that you wonder how I feel? What makes things go well when I admire how you empathize? My main project at the moment is to dvindicate the unorthodox view that one can be directly aware of another's character traits, rather than having to infer them from known behavior, thought, or feeling. There are metaphysical obstacles to this idea, but it also promises ethical and epistemological rewards; I strive to overcome the obstacles and reap the rewards.
