I am a philosopher interested in the ethics and epistemology of the "inner life" (emotion, perception, memory, etc.). Of special concern to me are normative questions concerning intermental relationships. For instance, is there a moral or intellectual requirement that you wonder how I feel? What makes things go well or poorly when I admire how you empathize? My main project at the moment is to develop a quasi-perceptual character epistemology. That is to say, I am working to vindicate the unorthodox view that one can be directly aware of another's character traits, rather than having to infer them from known behavior, thought, or feeling.
